Smoky Grilled Meatloaf Burger with Charred Green Bean Fries

Ingredients

1 ½ pounds Florida ground beef

2 Florida eggs

½ cup onions, chopped small

½ cup Florida celery, chopped small

½ cup Florida sweet peppers, chopped small

½ cup carrots, chopped small

2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce

2 tablespoons fresh herbs (parsley, oregano, thyme), chopped fine

1 tablespoon deli or stone-ground mustard

¼ cup Parmesan cheese, grated

1 ½ cups dry stuffing or dressing mix

2 teaspoons Florida seasoning blend (Everglades)

1 teaspoon olive oil

Sea salt and fresh ground pepper, to taste

 

Tomato Sauce:

¾ cup ketchup

1 tablespoon Florida hot sauce, to taste

1 tablespoon Florida honey

1 teaspoon Florida seasoning blend (Everglades)

Preparation

Preheat a small sauté pan over medium-high heat. Carefully add the olive oil to the preheated sauté pan. Carefully add the chopped onion, carrot, sweet pepper and celery. Cook vegetables for 6 to 8 minutes, until caramelized and almost tender. Remove from heat and set aside to cool.

 

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, eggs, Worcestershire sauce, chopped herbs, mustard, grated parmesan cheese, stuffing mix and seasoning blend. Add the cooked and cooled celery, peppers, onion and carrot mixture to the meatloaf hamburger mix. Stir all ingredients to combine. Hand-form 4 to 6 even-sized hamburger patties. Cover the patties and let them rest in the refrigerator for at least one hour before grilling.

 

Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Make sure the preheated grill has a clean cooking surface. Carefully place the chilled meatloaf burgers on the grill in an evenly heated area. Grill the burgers for 3 to 4 minutes on each side, depending on desired doneness. Add 1 tablespoon of the tomato ketchup mixture to the top of each meatloaf burger after they have been flipped over. An internal thermometer should read between 140 and 150 degrees for proper doneness.
