3/4 cup Florida honey
1/2 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons dark brown sugar
1/4 cup unsalted butter
1 heaping tablespoon fresh garlic, minced
1 tablespoon quality vinegar
1/2 onion, chopped very fine
2 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper, plus more for more heat
1 teaspoon smoked chili powder
Sea salt and fresh ground pepper, to taste
Add all ingredients to a medium-sized sauce pot and heat over medium. Bring to a simmer and let cook, stirring occasionally. Taste and adjust seasoning with sea salt and fresh ground pepper. Cook BBQ sauce for at least 20 minutes before removing from heat and letting cool. Serve warm or keep in the refrigerator in a food storage container with a dated label for use later.
